Cougs Pounce in Cat Fight

In a snowy evening in Pullman,  Max Borghi took advantage of his final game in Martin Stadium with 140 yards on 16 carries and 2 touchdowns  as the Cougs run through the Wildcats 44-18.

The Cougs came into the  game Friday night against the 1-9 Arizona Wildcats a win away from being bowl eligible.   In a mix of weather, from rain to snow, then fog, the Cougs managed to pick apart the University of Arizona.  Senior Max Borghi started his domination early in the first with a 26-yard touchdown run to put the Cougs up 7-0 early.  In the 2nd, senior Travell Harris caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from de Laura to give the Cougs a 14-0 lead.  Arizona did put together a 12 play drive of their own, but ended in an unsuccessful 50-yard field goal by Lucas Havrisik.  Arizona got on the board late in the 2nd thanks to a 71-yard rush by Drake Anderson that set up a Boobie Curry 11-yard touchdown from Will Plummer.  De Lara connected with Calvin Jackson Jr. for a 45-yard touchdown strike before half to give the Cougs a commanding 21-7 lead going into the locker room.

Each of the last 2 meetings at Martin Stadium between the Cougs and the wildcats resulted in an offensive explosion with 69 points per game resulting in 50-point plus victories.  The Wildcats appear to be effected by the wintery temperatures coming from the warm climate of Tuscon.

In the second half, the snow stopped, and a heavy fog rolled in.  The Cougs came out firing.  Borghi added his second touchdown, then de Lara found Travell Harris on a 31-yard touchdown pass to put the game away for good.  The Cougs clinch a bowl victory and now have their sights on the Apple Cup.  The Cougs have not be the Huskies since 2012.  Washington comes into the game at 4-7 and need a win to keep any bowl hopes alive.  The Cougars still have hopes to win the Pac-12 North with a win over the Huskies and an Oregon State win over Oregon.  Apple Cup kicks off at 5 pm on Friday on FS1.
