The Cougs pounced into the desert and rushed for 161 yards collectively including 2 rushing touchdowns from quarterback Cam Ward.to take care of the Wildcats in the Desert 31-20
The big headlines coming into the game were with the Cougars former quarterback the past two seasons Jayden De Laura. De Laura who left on bad terms according to sources, is 2nd in passing in the conference and were coming off an upset win over UCLA last Saturday. De Laura coming into the game said, “This is personal,” which there was a lot riding on this game for the former Coug. Jayden won the Apple Cup last season for the Cougs in the largest margin for them in the history of the Apple Cup.
Cam Ward got the Cougs on the board early with a 76-yard drive to start the game capping it off with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Nakia Watson and the Cougs led 7-0 early. Ward ran another one in from 17- yards out to give WAZZU a 14-0 lead in the first half.
The resurgent Cougar defense held the powerful Arizona offense to 6 points in the first half and held a 21-6 lead at the break. The Cougs defense really stepped it up in the second half, intercepting De Laura 4 times including an interception return for 36-yards by Derrick Langford Jr.
Nakia Watson added 2 more touchdowns on the ground to go along with 56-yards. Despite 357-yards passing, De Laura had a forgettable game against his former team. The Cougs take on the Huskies on Saturday night in the Apple Cup, looking to win their second straight.
